The things I appreciate most about my computer would be:
- The storage 300GB.
- The RAM 4GB.
- The screen size 15 inches.
- The size and shape of my keyboard.
- The number of USB ports 3.
- The battery life. Usually lasts about two hours. This is a challenge when I do homework away from home or in place where I don't have access to an outlet.
- The touch pad is very difficult to use and you really have to press down hard on the right/left buttons to click.
- There is no Fire Wire port to connect directly to a camcorder.
Near all of your wanted upgrades are very simple. USB hubs can be found at any electronics store, giving you 3-7 extra USB ports. Extended batteries are available for most all HP laptops, and the Chinese copies can be as cheap as $30. Genuine replacement touch pads are cheap as well, but can be somewhat of a trouble to replace. One option would be to use a wireless mouse. They make USB to Firewire cables that could be used to connect to your camcorder. Ram is one of the easiest upgrades to a computer, and on every HP I have seen it only takes two screws to remove the cover on the bottom of the laptop. Then just push the retaining tab out of the way and the RAM pops right up, pull it out and replace with a better stick, then push it down and replace the cover.
ReplyDeleteTylor has done a very thorough job of suggesting upgrades for your laptop. The only other option I can think of to upgrade your computer would be to replace it, although, it seems to be quite adequate, so I would not recommend that.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the two biggest problems are battery life and the touchpad. Getting better or additional batteries would be the solution for the power problem, although it could get costly(and a hassle to carry additional batteries around with you). And a plug in or wireless mouse to the side(but again more stuff to carry).
The great thing about computers is that the next best one will be out anyday now and will be able to fix all of your problems. Well at least until that computer is dated next year and then another one will be available. It appears to me that everyone has the same basic problems with number of ports, batteries, touch pad problems and memory. All easily fixable just a pain and cost more money!
ReplyDeleteBy the time you upgrade everything that needs to be upgraded, it will be time to do it again. I don't use a laptop because I don't like them but the battery charge would be very annoying along with the touchpad. My only advice would to be upgrading RAM but you already know that.
ReplyDeleteI bought an HP two years ago and my ac input jack went out on it recently. I was going to get it fixed, but everywhere I went wanted between 300 and 400 to fix it and they would only guarantee for 60-90 days. So I ended up having to buy a new computer. My advice to you is make sure you never put stress on the jack, because it causes it to pull away from the mother board and you'll end up having to buy a new computer like me. Unless your really good at soldering.
ReplyDeleteI love my HP so far. Seems to run fast and do everything I need it to do. I think that yours probably runs awesome with that amount of ram!
ReplyDeletethese days you can find USB adapters at radio-shack they also sell portable mouse's to solve your problem with the track pad. if your considering upgrading the RAM i would recommend visiting amazon i think they're having a sale right now on that stuff
