Convergence

The technology device that I choose is..........the smartphone! How original huh!!? I know it probably will be the most popular response to the convergence discussion, but there is a reason for that. Off the top of my head I can think of four other devices I own that would become obsolete if I had a smart phone. I write down my school assignments and my daily schedule on paper still. BOOM! The smartphone takes care of that. I love my i-Pod and listen to music a lot. BAM! The smartphone has MP3 capabilities. I rely on my GPS for travel. BOOM! The smart phone has built in GPS. Oh, and it is a phone. Good by old crappy cell phone!
Convergence is a beautiful thing.

  1. I agree with you the smart phone is a wonderful device. It can do all the task’s that you mentioned above and then some with the addition of apps (as mentioned in Taylor’s convergence blog). The only issue is which smartphone to get; with so many on the market it makes for a hard choice, but with the addition of tablets it can make the decision really tough. The only thing missing with tablets is the phone capabilities, but there are ways around that.

Don’t know if you meant to but, I like the old school Batman theme!!

  2. I totally agree with the phone being most popular. Everyone always wonder why we are on our phones, well we don't really need anything else. It's funny how we don't really use the phone to talk anymore but for everything else.

  3. Dale - I agree with the smartphone too. I don't have a tablet to compare with, but I love the fact that the smartphone fits right inside my pocket! It's great having everything you need at your finger tips.

  4. Smartphone was also the choice for me. There is so many things you can do with your phones. It would be hard to come up with another device.

  5. I love your answer. I too, love the convergence of the cell phone. I love the idea of it doing so much for you yet so much smaller. It's great for checking e-mails also.

  6. I agree with you as well, they may not be the best option for each individual task, but they are typically always with you, and work well enough to get it done. Even if it takes a minute longer to find something on the web due to the small screen, it probably would have taken you more than a minute to get out a laptop to do a search.
